A total of 952.6k tonnes of greenhouse vegetables were harvested in Russia in 2017, illustrating 17% growth compared with last year´s figures, informs the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. “In 2017, gross greenhouse vegetables yield totalled 952.6k tonnes. That is 17% more than in 2016 (813.6k tonnes) and 34.1% more than in 2015 (709.8 k tonnes)”, says the report.

Summarizing the results of 2017, 251 ha of new greenhouses were put into operation. It increased the total area of winter greenhouse by 11.7%. The yield in these new greenhouses hits all the records – 60kg per sq.m, says the Minister.

Nationwide, the average greenhouse yield reaches 34 kg per sq.m, i.e. 33% more than in 2011, informs the ministry.

The greenhouse leaders are the Krasnodar territory – 85k tonnes, Stavropol territory – 65.2k tonnes, Tatarstan – 46.2k tonnes, Bashkiria – 40.1k tonnes, Lipetsk region – 37.6k tonnes.

Besides, the Ministry highlights that within 3 years, import of vegetables fell more than twice – from 2.4m tonnes in 2014 to 1.1m tonnes in 2016.
